The Town of Devon was originally built to accomodate the oil boom of 1947, after the discovery of the Leduc-Woodbend Oil Field by Imperial Oil. Discovery Well #1, the most famous oil well in Alberta, is located 1km south of the Town of Devon. Devon is a unique community. It became labelled as "Canada's Model Town" since it was the first municipality in Canada to recieve approval from a Regional Planning Commission.
Our proximity to the beautiful North Saskatchewan River provides unsurpassed opportunities for outdoor recreation and tourism activities. A healthy, safe, and caring community that has recently been labeled as a Community of Respect awaits new residents of Devon.
